# Your skills & experience

* You've seen the good, the bad, the ugly, and the just plain weird sides of the internet.
* 6+ years of engineering experience. Comfortable working across distributed systems. Have solid engineering fundamentals (CS degree a plus, but not required).
* Strong knowledge of the Node.js, Javascript and Typescript
* Strong experience with serverless technologies including AWS Lambda & AWS EventBridge
* Very proficient in server-side languages and a track record of running micro-services in production.
* Experience with relational databases (postgres) as well as document-based data stores (MongoDB, DynamoDB).
* You have multiple years of experience managing non-trivial software running in the cloud (AWS or others).

Fleet’s server is written in Go with go-kit. Deployments range from single servers to over 100,000 clients connected to horizontally scaled Fleet servers, handling tens of thousands of requests per minute. We aim to keep Fleet’s deployment as simple as possible to ease self-hosted deployment. MySQL and Redis are used for persistence and caching.

* Design and implement new features and APIs with Go in Fleet’s 100% source-available codebase.
* Profile and optimize the performance of the Fleet server (along with MySQL and Redis queries) to improve reliability and increase the upper limits of deployment sizes.

Front End Engineer

The primary project of Heliax is the Anoma protocol (implemented in Rust). Anoma is a sovereign, proof-of-stake blockchain protocol that enables private, asset-agnostic cash and private bartering among any number of parties. In addition to Anoma, Heliax works on open-source projects which are part of the Anoma ecosystem, including but not limited to research in cryptographic libraries such as the MASP or Ferveo (written in Rust), and tools for high assurance validity predicates and arbitrary zero-knowledge circuits (Juvix, written in Haskell).

Heliax is a remote-first team, currently composed of cross-disciplinary members located around the world. All of our work is open-source. Our work culture is characterized by open-allocation, where team members have a high degree of freedom and autonomy in choosing when to work, what to work on, and whom to work with.

* Architecture & building front-ends from scratch from design prototypes, wireframes and specifications.
* Work very closely with the designer(s) on clarifying and providing bi-directional feedback on the designed wireframes, prototypes, and graphic assets.

# What You'll Bring:

* A breadth of experience in Go or other compiled programming languages. Our main language is Go, but we also have projects span across multiple languages. We believe in picking the right language for the right problem.
* A history of delivering product features & deploying services with a high level of comfort iterating on a system while it is constantly serving traffic. Our system is always on with demanding availability and throughput challenges.

# Within 1 month, you'll:

* Learn about the business and dive into the inner workings of our platform.
* Have one-on-one's and pairing sessions with some of the people you'll be working closely with and get to know your engineering peers across our product umbrella.
* Do a deep dive into the code base and learn more about Go and other technologies in our stack.
* Tackle your first ticket by committing changes & helping perform code reviews with the team.
 
# Within 3 months, you'll:

* Establish strong async communication rhythms with your peers and leaders, practicing transparency and visibility in your progress against areas of focus
* Join the on-call rotation and help the team pay down technical debt and improve reliability
* Gain a more robust understanding of the needs of the product and become more comfortable with diagnosing problems
* Deliver on your first project and help teams iterate on meaningful customer outcomes
* Solicit feedback from your peers, including other engineers and teammates in your product team, and support your team through thoughtful feedback

# Within 6 months, you'll:

* Contribute to building reliable microservices that are deployed into our Kubernetes cluster

# About the Role:

To fully achieve our mission to share and grow the world’s knowledge, we need to make sure that the knowledge on Quora will improve and last forever. Revenue from our monetization efforts plays a critical role in empowering us to do that. Since we first launched our advertising platform, we've already grown to support thousands of advertisers who are reaching over 300 million monthly unique visitors on Quora. We have continued to build new products from the ground up and tackle exciting challenges at scale around audience targeting, low-latency real-time ad delivery, and a suite of advertiser tools to create and optimize campaigns, to name just a few. We're also expanding our monetization efforts beyond ads, including features to support creators on Quora.

As an engineer on the Monetization team, you'll work on efforts focused on generating revenue for the success of the company and mission to share and grow world's knowledge. As a member of a highly cross-functional development team, you'll build data-intensive applications, systems and new products that will unlock future monetization opportunities for Quora. This also includes defining, and shaping the experience of users, advertisers and businesses on Quora.

# Responsibilities:

* Drive projects from ideation to production using the full technology stack.
* Work on a product team focused on monetization efforts at Quora.
* Architect, design, and implement features for our mission-critical online ad platform at massive scale with data-driven iteration.
* Identify high impact features that achieve engineering and revenue goals, and be able to explain rationale for your decisions.
* Work with product managers, designers, fellow engineers, and data scientists to prototype and implement functionality and analyze impact.
* Work quickly and effectively on multiple projects, prioritizing effectively to ship new features and scale up existing ones.

# Minimum Requirements:

* Ability to be available for meetings and impromptu communication during Quora's "coordination hours" (Mon-Fri: 9am-3pm Pacific Time). Learn why here
* 3+ years of full-time product development experience building consumer or enterprise web products (internships excluded)
* Excellent Python, Java, or C++ development skills
* Strong knowledge of backend storage systems such as MySQL, HBase, Memcached, or Redis
* Experience with large-scale distributed systems

* 2+ years of industry experience in online advertising, or related areas in monetization & marketing
* 1+ years of experience building with open-source data infrastructure technologies, such as Kafka, Airflow, and Spark
