We’re looking for a Product Designer to create, communicate, and review design updates to our broad feature set in our ongoing effort to be an all-in-one platform for creators looking to sell their work online

# What's this job all about?

Until now, we’ve had a single amazing product designer - Luke Seeley - handling all of our product design needs.

As our development team has grown and our velocity increased, we’ve hit the point where we need another amazing product designer to work with Luke.

You’ll report to Luke and be primarily responsible for working with him on designs for upcoming projects, communicating your designs with developers assigned to your projects, and reviewing their workout throughout development.

# Here’s what you’ll do

We work in Figma, and you’ll be workshopping designs for a range of projects, getting feedback from Luke and other stakeholders. After designs are approved, you’ll translate and articulate the designs in Basecamp, where the developers assigned to the project will start to put your direction into action.

We value design tremendously at Podia, and you’ll be involved in every step of the project. As your designs get built, you’ll be responding to questions and concerns as they arise, and potentially altering designs as they’re implemented. Depending on the project, you may be providing ongoing feedback before a final review.

On a day-to-day basis, you’ll be doing some combination of:

* Working on designs for upcoming features and product updates
* Joining a project meeting and explaining your design update, discussing implementation details with your fellow project mates.
* Making any necessary design updates or Basecamp comments that result from the meeting
* Responding to Basecamp notifications and Slack messages from teammates
* Potentially pairing with Luke on each other’s project work
* Product design will take up the bulk (read: >98%) of your workload. However, from time to time, you’ll also be making minor code contributions to our component library, developing marketing graphics for product updates, and preparing company presentations in Figma.

If you’re the product designer we’re looking for, you’ll already be familiar and confident with developing and delivering designs for complex web apps.

You should have experience in most of these areas (but don’t be discouraged if you’re missing a couple!):

* Thinking about, working within, and evolving design systems
* Communicating your designs to developers
* Drafting usable copy for designs (the design team is responsible for all product copy)
* Writing and reading basic frontend code, with a strong understanding of CSS and HTML
* Using GitHub to browse, review, and contribute code
* Using Figma to produce designs based on reusable components

The project phase is a short do-at-home project (paid), run very much like a Podia design project. We typically allow a week for the completion of the project, but expect you’ll only need about four hours.

We review the test projects and select candidates to go on for interview. Candidates will have three interviews: one with our Senior Product Designer, one with our CEO, and one with a senior developer lasting about 30-45 minutes each. There's no whiteboarding, stupid brain teasers, or live designs to do—just two people having a chat over Zoom about your experiences and approach to work.

After that, we'll decide on our final candidates and ask for professional references from both a previous co-worker and a manager. We'll reach out to those references to set up a brief 10 minute call.

9:00-9:30 - Read a chapter in a great design book or your favourite blog about product development
9:30-10:30 - Research and find design inspiration for a new product feature we are working on.
10:30-12:30 - Deep work designing high fidelity prototypes for a new feature which you have previously done wireframes for.
12:30-1:15 - Grab some lunch and continue to read or find design inspiration.
1:15-2:00 - Sync with a product manager and another engineer to discuss the product roadmap.
2:00-4:00 - More deep work designing the current product feature you are focused on.
